Every day is a great day at the Brigade, but last Friday was extraordinary!! Kelly Cascaden from A BIKE FOR EVERY CHILD and her team of volunteers teamed up with the Brigade and gifted more than 160 bikes to OUR KIDS!!! Thank you to Kelly and her team of outstanding people, to Lowes Foods for collecting bikes and to the Wilmington Police Dept. for teaching a bike safety class to OUR KIDS and registering all the bikes!!! A Bike for Every Child is a nonprofit organization that collects gently used bikes from the community, repairs them, and gives them to kids in need. It is their mission to have our community come together to have every child experience the joy, confidence, and well-being of owning and riding a bike. A Bike for Every Child believes in turning dusty bikes, into shiny smiles, and having our youth ride into a happier and healthier future. www.abikeforeverychild.org and on Facebook www.facebook.com/abikeforeverychild

WOW ~ Work on Wilmington

WORK ON WILMINGTON & NC STATE PORTS AUTHORITY

On April 23, 2016 hundreds of volunteers will take action and participate in a variety of service projects throughout the community. Brigade Boys & Girls Club is one of the lucky recipients of this outstanding service.
NC State Ports Authority will arrive at the Brigade 8:00am Saturday morning, April 23, to conquer a multitude of projects. Projects include: painting our shed, power washing our sidewalks and building, plantings throughout the grounds, mulching flower beds and the play ground, fixing a broke sidewalk, new swings and painting projects in the playground area. Many of the needed supplies were donated by Home Depot on Eastwood Road. A huge thank you to WOW, NC State Ports Authority and Home Depot. Their common goal: Make Wilmington a Better Place to Live. Work On Wilmington seeks to energize the volunteer spirit in all of us by following the successful model active in more than 50 cities across the United States. Work On Wilmington works in partnership with community organizations and agencies to create meaningful, hands on service projects that improve quality of life and achieve tangible results.

We are proud to announce this year’s 2016 Brigade’s YOY, Catherine Parks. Catherine attended Isaac Bear Early College High School. Isaac Bear is program in which all four years of high school courses are completed in freshman and sophomore years, while junior and senior years are used to receive an education at UNCW.   Catherine first came to the Brigade in 2006 .  Catherine’s vision for America’s youth is that there is no longer a perceived “normal” and that youth won’t feel like there’s something wrong with them if they aren’t exactly like everyone else.
